I’ve been living on unemployment for close to a year now. My field of study is pretty narrow and after getting laid off, I quickly discovered that my skills were not transferable to a lot of outside careers. I’ve basically been working part time in retail and trying to go back to school.
Recently though, a job opportunity in my old career has popped up. A friend I used to work with will soon be going on mat leave. Her job posting came up and considering my sad job prospects right now, I’m going to apply. Of course it’s only for a year, but that gives me a year in a whole new city, a whole new area in fact ... and the prospect excites me, I’ve been thinking about moving out of my current city... I mean, I love it here, the weather is great, it’s a fantastic area, etc. But... as usual there are pitfalls. It’s expensive here, the dating prospects sucks and it’s basically a rich people’s retirement or play area.
My friend messaged me today and said she’d talk to her boss about me if I was going to apply ... so that’s sealed the deal. I’m sending out my resume and portfolio tomorrow
